We, throughout GSA Network, understand that the only way to truly get at the invasive roots of colonization is through comprehensive education. An education that teaches young people, no matter their identity, how to be part of this interconnected and interdependent global community. An education that honors the full spectrum of who you are (becoming) that weaves together your cultural roots, boundless identities, and brilliant mind into an educational tapestry that reflects your worth and potential. It's education that doesn't ask you to choose between parts of yourself, but instead creates space where your intersecting identities become sources of strength and knowledge. This approach nurtures both academic excellence and the deep knowing that you belong exactly as you are, in service of transforming the world with your unique gifts. This planet is y(our) classroom. You exist and belong here, and have the right to self-determination. And you deserve to be resourced and supported so that every day you are ready to learn.

It is our belief that students have a mandate to make the most of their time in learning spaces. As TQ2S+ folks, we often daydream our way through early education, eager for the days we will be able to learn and live in autonomy. But learning doesn’t have to be something you look forward to in the future. This is y(our) world right now – and nothing is permanent. You can discern what you need, you can create what you want, and you can leave behind what no longer serves you. You will know you are on the right path when you are dancing between discernment and inspiration, the old world and the new. Mariame Kaba says, “It’s time for a jailbreak of the imagination in order to make the impossible possible.” Queerness makes us especially equipped to be all three things at once: an artist, a meditator, and a warrior. As TQ2S people, we have accepted that being many things at once is our human nature! We must embody our most natural expressions of self to build collective power and stay connected.

So, hopeful for this school year? YES. Because hope is a discipline that TQ2S young people require. Let us not waste time at the end of the world as we know it, reforming inadequate structures with no integrity, no beauty, no lifeforce. What can we imagine for ourselves, this classroom, and the world? The pulse of hope will always be restored by the people around us, as will the learnings we need to survive and thrive fully. This present school year, like the future and the past, is in our hands.
