Beloved GSA Network!

With a new school year under way, we are here to remind you that your potential as a student holds power - power that makes the people in charge anxious enough to undermine and attack your rights and existence. The U.S. public educational system has been treated like a tool of crowd control by the elites of our country who continuously make efforts to censor our identities and stifle our imagination.

Instead of resourcing communities to nurture and develop the mental and socioemotional capacity of young people, the law is used to manipulate the next generation into submission and obedience. Since patriotism has been mutated into something that justifies the separating of families and premature killing of our people’s souls, shame becomes the tool used to get young people to police themselves - but we refuse to let that happen!

In order to truly live as our authentic selves, we cannot succumb to that shame or let it stop us. Instead, we must continue to live and OUTlive those in power. We refuse to listen to man-made concepts of capitalism over the laws of nature in the world around us. While there have been times in history where U.S. culture seems to suppress all signs of queerness and transness, we are rooted to a lineage of TQ2S+ people who were unstoppable forces of nature. Our lifeforce is our power and we will use it to fuel our people!

This is where pride, rooted in liberation, is born and created. As Octavia Butler wrote, “We are life, perceiving itself.” We are one on this planet, existing together, and pride is refusing to be erased. Together, we exist, belong, and self-determine; we do not need permission or forgiveness to be curious, to learn, to be queer, or to be trans. Life cannot be permitted; it can only be lived - so we will live!

As you gather your GSA club in school and community, we ask you to GROW free from shame. Live in your freedom, your power, and your authenticity. And when you need a reminder that you are strong enough, GSA Network will be here to support you and nourish your power!
