In fantastic news this week the New York State Senate passed the "Dignity for All Students Act," which will prohibit bullying and harassment on the basis of gender identity and expression, sexual orientation, race, color, national origin, religion, weight or disability in New York schools. The law
was passed overwhelmingly by the Senate, with 58 votes to 3. The bill now heads to Governor David Paterson's desk to be signed into law. The bill also had similar bi-partisan support in the New York Assembly where it passed 138-4, which shows that a safe school is not a partisan issue but is in fact a right that all youth deserve.
GSA Network is excited and pleased for our friends and allies in New York who worked so hard to pass this legislation over the past 10 years. We applaud the new law as a huge step forward for the thousands of youth in schools across New York who will now be safer at school.
